2 PM on the 20th at Busan Smart Aquaculture Cluster Testbed
Deputy Mayor, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, GS Construction CEO, and Pukyong National University President Attend
On the 20th at 2 PM, Busan City will hold the 'Smart Aquaculture Cluster Completion Ceremony' at the 'Busan Smart Aquaculture Cluster Testbed.'
About 100 people will attend the ceremony, including Kim Gwanghoe, Deputy Mayor for Future Innovation of Busan City, Kang Do-hyung, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, Heo Yunhong, CEO of GS Construction, and Bae Sanghoon, President of Pukyong National University.
The event will proceed with a progress report, a celebratory salute ceremony, and a tour of the 'Testbed' facilities.
The 'Smart Aquaculture Cluster,' completed for the first time in Korea in Busan, is expected to become a new milestone that will enable the Korean aquaculture industry to take a leap forward.
After being selected for a government public offering project in 2019, the private company 'Eco Aqua Farm' introduced advanced overseas smart aquaculture technology on the site of the Fisheries Science Research Institute of Pukyong National University and will complete the 'Atlantic Salmon Smart Aquaculture Testbed' by the end of this year.
The 'Smart Aquaculture Cluster (Testbed) Development Project' is being promoted to transform the labor-intensive domestic aquaculture industry into a digital industry by integrating advanced technologies such as information and communication technology (ICT), thereby dramatically improving productivity, efficiency, and eco-friendliness.
The clusters are being established in five regions including Busan, Jeonnam, Gangwon-do, Gyeongbuk, and Jeju, with Busan being the first to complete and begin full-scale operation of the smart aquaculture farm.
The operation of the 'Testbed' will be handled by the private company 'Eco Aqua Farm,' while the city plans to support the advancement of smart aquaculture through research and development (R&D).
'Eco Aqua Farm,' aiming for product shipment in 2026, will develop the first domestic Atlantic salmon aquaculture model by domesticating the recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) technology, currently operated overseas, based on the water treatment technology capabilities of its parent company GS Construction, and will promote demonstration aquaculture with an annual scale of 500 tons.
Kim Gwanghoe, Deputy Mayor for Future Innovation of Busan City, stated, “This 'Smart Aquaculture Cluster' is expected to bring technological innovation that can change the paradigm of Korea's aquaculture industry,” and added, “Busan possesses the nation's top marine and fisheries universities and research institutions, so our city will lead the domestic smart aquaculture industry through cooperation among industry, academia, and research.”
