Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) announced that it will hold the Seongdong Sharing Center ‘Repair Festival’ at 1 p.m. on December 21 in the main auditorium on the 3rd floor of Seongdong-gu Office.
The ‘Repair Festival’ is an event aimed at protecting the environment and further spreading the culture of resource circulation by repairing and using items directly. Any resident can participate and enjoy the sharing culture together.
The event is organized by ‘Seongdong Youth Platform,’ the operating corporation of the ‘Seongdong Sharing Center,’ with support from the public fundraising and distribution organization ‘The Beautiful Foundation’ through a grant project. It will operate a total of seven booths, including ▲ ‘Repair booths’ for electronics, wood, clothing, bicycles, etc., ▲ ‘Experience booths’ for tool usage and home repairs, and ▲ ‘Environment booths’ such as making eco-friendly (EM) soap.
Various practical programs will also be held, such as ‘Repair Experience,’ where participants can try fixing various everyday items themselves, and ‘Tool Experience,’ where they can handle drills, tile cutters, and more.
The Seongdong Sharing Center (10 Haengdang-ro 6-gil, Seongdong-gu), which hosts the event, is the only standalone sharing center in Seoul’s autonomous districts, holding about 1,000 items including tools, household goods, and camping equipment, making it the largest in the country.
In addition to lending items, it operates various sharing programs such as a repair caf? for fixing broken items and sharing citizen campaigns. It also runs space-sharing projects to expand experiences of sharing values, including the ‘Sharing Maru BBQ Party’ where residents can relax in the city, shared kitchens, and shared bookshelves, playing a key role in creating an eco-friendly and virtuous cycle city.
The Seongdong Sharing Center is available to anyone through membership registration on its website, and detailed usage information can be obtained via KakaoTalk Plus Friend ‘Seongdong Sharing Center’ or by phone.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Through the ‘Repair Festival,’ I hope it becomes an opportunity to share the experience of repairing and reusing items directly and to raise awareness of the importance of resource reuse and environmental protection.” He added, “Based on the Seongdong Sharing Center, we will continue to expand the sharing culture and support residents’ small daily practices that protect the environment and resources.”
