Hyundai Motor Group has placed 22 vehicle models on the highest rating list in the crash evaluations conducted by the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This achievement demonstrates the group's safety performance, as it received the most vehicles rated as 'safe cars' among global automakers.
Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 19th that the Kia K4 2025 model was newly selected for the 2024 IIHS Top Safety Pick (TSP) rating in the crash evaluation released by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety on the 17th (local time).
The K4 is a compact sedan sold by Kia in the North American market. Following its recent nomination as a finalist in the passenger car category for the '2025 North American Car of the Year,' it has now also been selected for the TSP.
With the K4's TSP selection, the total number of Hyundai Motor Group models receiving TSP+ or TSP ratings this year has increased to 22, including 9 Hyundai models, 8 Genesis models, and 5 Kia models. Toyota ranked second with 18 models, and Honda third with 11 models. By brand, Hyundai and Kia ranked 2nd and 6th respectively among mass-market brands, while Genesis secured 1st place among luxury brands.
This year’s TSP+ ratings include four Hyundai models: Ioniq 6, Ioniq 5, Kona, and Tucson; seven Genesis models: G90, G80, G80 Electrified model, GV80, GV70 (2025 model), GV70 Electrified model, and GV60; and one Kia model: Telluride.
The TSP ratings include five Hyundai models: Avante (known locally as Elantra), Sonata, Palisade, Santa Fe, and Santa Cruz; one Genesis model: GV70[1] (2024 model); and four Kia models: K4, EV9, Sportage, and Sorento.
In IIHS crash evaluations, vehicles demonstrating the highest safety receive the TSP+ rating, while those with good performance receive the TSP rating. Notably, this year, stricter standards were applied for rear-seat occupant protection and pedestrian collision prevention systems, raising the bar for earning top ratings. Up to November, IIHS selected a total of 104 models available in the U.S. market, with 56 models receiving TSP+ and 48 models receiving TSP.
A Hyundai Motor Group official stated, "We are proud that many of our models have proven the highest level of safety in the more stringent 2024 IIHS crash evaluations. Hyundai Motor Group will continue to prioritize customer safety and strive to protect both vehicle occupants and pedestrians."
