Contributing to Alleviating Parking Shortages through the Parking Sharing System Project
Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 18th that it will publicly recruit users for the free nighttime opening of school parking facilities in the first half of 2025 until the 27th.

The city has been actively promoting a parking sharing project using a sharing economy model since 2021 to alleviate parking difficulties in urban areas.
This project involves renting out parking lots owned by individuals or corporations to citizens in need, focusing on areas where it is difficult to provide public parking lots (such as old downtown areas with dense multi-family housing). The city currently operates shared parking lots in cooperation with six schools.
A typical example of the parking sharing system is opening school parking lots, which are rarely used at night, or opening auxiliary parking lots of commercial buildings with available space, with the city providing subsidies. This approach allows securing parking lots with a small budget and efficiently utilizing limited parking spaces.
The schools participating in the parking sharing system are Wondang Elementary School (Jugyo-dong), Yongjeong Elementary School (Hwajeong 1-dong), Jeodong High School (Jeongbalsan-dong), Yuldong Elementary School (Jeongbalsan-dong), Naengcheon Elementary School (Madu 1-dong), and Garam Elementary School (Haengsin 4-dong), each providing about 30 parking spaces.
Applications can be submitted by visiting the Goyang City Parking and Traffic Division or the local administrative welfare center with the application form and required documents. Detailed information can be found on the announcement board of the Goyang City Hall website.
A Goyang Special City official stated, “We will do our best to steadily promote the parking sharing project, especially in areas with severe parking difficulties, to create a pleasant and safe parking environment.”
