The inauguration ceremony of Dr. Bae Sang-hoon (裵尙勳), the 8th president of the National Pukyong National University (age 60, majoring in Satellite Information Convergence Engineering), was held on the afternoon of the 18th in the large conference room on the 2nd floor of the university headquarters.
The ceremony was attended by former presidents of Pukyong National University, Seo Young-ok, president of the alumni association, Kang Ui-gu, director of the Busan Consulate, as well as Kim Kwang-hoe, Deputy Mayor of Future Innovation of Busan City, Yang Jae-saeng, chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, university presidents nationwide, and other guests, professors, and students.
President Bae Sang-hoon was appointed as the 8th president of Pukyong National University on November 15th last year. His term is four years, until November 14, 2028.
In his inaugural speech, President Bae said, “Based on traditional fundamental studies and focusing on advanced disciplines, we will not stop innovating to lead future academic fields. To this end, based on the value of ‘Everyone’s Future, Shared Dreams,’ we will advance as a leading national university in Korea where young Pukyong people can realize their dreams.”
He emphasized, “To achieve this, I will implement four major visions that a great and strong university can and must pursue. As a ‘strong university,’ we will take the lead in ‘knowledge innovation,’ collaborate globally, and realize a ‘harmonious future.’”

President Bae graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering at Pusan National University and earned his master's and doctoral degrees in Transportation Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Since 2002, he has served as a professor in the Department of Satellite Information Convergence Engineering at Pukyong National University, held the position of dean of the College of Environment and Ocean, and worked as a research fellow at the Korea Transport Institute.
He currently serves as chairman of the Busan Public Transportation Citizens Fund and co-representative of the Busan Public Transportation Forum.
