Pocheon City conducted the artifact purchase to revitalize the operation of the Pocheon History and Culture Center and to strengthen the exhibition, education, and research foundation of the Pocheon Municipal Museum, which is currently under construction. As a result, the city decided to finally purchase 101 artifacts from 33 cases after artifact practical review and evaluation committee deliberations.
Additionally, by participating in auctions, the city acquired 43 more artifacts from 14 cases, including a rubbing of calligraphy by Yang Sa-eon, a historical figure of Pocheon, and works by Lee Hae-jo, a novelist during the Japanese colonial period, thereby collecting various materials containing Pocheon's historical value.
Notably, the major artifacts secured this time include ▲ "Spy of the Uijeongcheoksa faction," which shows the anti-Japanese will of ancestors who resisted Japan's invasion ▲ Lee Hae-jo's "New Novel," which offers a literary perspective on the societal changes from a Confucian-centered society to modernization in the late Joseon period ▲ articles and magazines depicting the horrors of the Korean War and the pain of national division.
A Pocheon City official stated, “We will continue to systematically secure materials that can clarify Pocheon's local history through artifact donation and consignment campaigns and continuous artifact purchases, laying the foundation for the establishment of the Pocheon Municipal Museum. We plan to secure an annual budget of 300 million KRW for artifact purchases to collect historical materials from various eras, thereby establishing Pocheon's cultural identity and strengthening the research foundation.”
