Pohang City’s special documentary “The Golden Key of Wealthy Cities, MICE” will be broadcast on Pohang MBC at 9 PM on the 19th.

This documentary was produced to easily introduce the concept of the MICE industry, which is gaining attention as a next-generation industry, and to promote Pohang’s direction for fostering the MICE industry.

In particular, Pohang City highlights leading global MICE industry cities that attract worldwide attention, such as Davos in Switzerland, Las Vegas in the United States, and Munich in Germany, and presents the direction that Pohang’s MICE industry should take.

Additionally, centered around the Pohang International Exhibition & Convention Center (POEX), the documentary explores ways to develop the local MICE industry by utilizing various tourism resources and aims to build public consensus on nurturing future new industries.

While Pohang City is pursuing a proactive strategy to diversify its industrial structure, the number of jobs centered on new industries continues to increase steadily, but the youth population is consistently declining.

As a breakthrough measure, the city is actively fostering the MICE industry, which is expected to significantly contribute to increasing jobs for young women, attract youth population inflow, and serve as a stepping stone for Pohang to overcome the risk of regional extinction.

Moreover, Pohang dreams of leaping forward as a global central city through the MICE industry, which will bring enormous economic ripple effects.

This documentary, produced with a total runtime of 50 minutes, uncovers the growth potential of Pohang’s MICE industry and introduces the positive impacts of the MICE industry such as revitalizing the local economy and strengthening urban capabilities.

Furthermore, it considers strategies for attracting regionally specialized international conferences and large-scale exhibitions and fairs, presenting directions for the MICE industry that can find new paths for local industries and provide residents with broad opportunities to enjoy culture.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “The MICE industry will be a turning point for a great leap that will quantum jump the competitiveness of global city Pohang,” and added, “We hope for the continuous interest of citizens in fostering the MICE industry, which is Pohang’s new growth engine.”

In July, Pohang City broke ground on the Pohang International Exhibition & Convention Center (POEX), the core hub of the MICE industry and a new landmark of the city, with completion targeted for the end of 2026.

The city attended the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan, to promote the achievements of Pohang’s carbon neutrality policies to the international community, and successfully secured the hosting of the S.I.W Pohang, a subsidiary meeting of the United Nations Climate Change Global Innovation Hub (UGIH), in the first half of next year, continuing efforts to leap forward as a MICE industry-centered city.
