Paju-si Awarded Minister of the Interior and Safety Award as an Excellent Institution in Crisis Management Operations

Awarded Excellence in Civil Defense and Emergency Preparedness for 6 Consecutive Years
First Among 31 Cities and Counties in Gyeonggi-do

Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 18th that it was selected as an outstanding institution for the '2024 Crisis Management Service Merit' and received a commendation from the Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

The 'Crisis Management Service Merit' outstanding institution is selected once a year and awarded to institutions that have contributed to the development of crisis management services, such as emergency evacuation plans and civil defense shelter management, in preparation for local provocations.

In response to heightened inter-Korean tensions this year, including North Korea’s release of waste and garbage balloons toward the South and loudspeaker noise directed at the South, Paju City updated its civil defense emergency evacuation plan to prepare for possible North Korean provocations and verified its effectiveness during civil defense drills. In addition, the city regularly inspected civil defense shelters and immediately addressed any deficiencies to maintain them in a state ready for constant use, efforts that were highly evaluated for maintaining a thorough emergency preparedness posture.

With this selection as an outstanding institution for the 'Crisis Management Service Merit' and receiving the ministerial award, Paju City has been honored as an excellent institution for six consecutive years among the 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province. This follows previous awards including the Prime Minister’s Commendation for Emergency Preparedness Establishment in 2019, the Minister of the Interior and Safety’s Commendation for Crisis Management Service Development in 2020, the Minister of the Interior and Safety’s Commendation for Emergency Preparedness Policy Development in 2021, the Governor of Gyeonggi Province’s Commendation for Emergency Preparedness Drills in 2022, and the Governor of Gyeonggi Province’s Commendation for Civil Defense Alarm Service Development in 2023, culminating in this year’s Minister of the Interior and Safety’s Commendation in the civil defense and emergency preparedness field.
