Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 18th that it held an opening ceremony for the Metropolitan Area 2nd Ring Expressway (Paju-Yangju) section at the Bukyangju Interchange in Yongam-ri, Eunhyeon-myeon.

About 200 people attended the event, including Kang Su-hyun, Mayor of Yangju City, Baek Won-guk, 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ham Jin-gyu, President of Korea Expressway Corporation, government and local government officials, representatives from the Expressway Corporation and construction companies, and members of the National Assembly.
The newly opened expressway is a 24.75 km long, four-lane road connecting Bugok-ri, Paju-eup, Paju City to Hoeam-dong, Yangju City. Construction began in March 2017 and was completed in December this year after 7 years and 9 months. The total project cost was 1.4357 trillion KRW. Additionally, three interchanges, 37 bridges, nine tunnels, and one rest area for drowsy driving prevention were installed. The opening is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. on the 19th.
With this opening, the 76.95 km section connecting Paju, Yangju, Pocheon, and Yangpyeong among the four northern Gyeonggi sections of the Metropolitan Area 2nd Ring Expressway is now connected. This expansion of east-west expressway infrastructure is expected to greatly contribute to revitalizing the regional economy through proximity between residence and workplace.
The travel time has been reduced by about 17 minutes, and the toll fee for the section from Beopwon Interchange to Yangju Interchange is 1,800 KRW. Furthermore, with this opening, 194.5 km (74%) of the total 264.3 km of the Metropolitan Area 2nd Ring Expressway is now connected.

Kang Su-hyun, Mayor of Yangju City, stated, “I hope that the opening of this expressway will develop the transportation network of Yangju City, the metropolitan area, and ultimately South Korea, and contribute to balanced growth between regions.”
He added, “The opening of the Metropolitan Area 2nd Ring Expressway is more than just the opening of a road; it will be an opportunity for Yangju City to leap forward as a key metropolitan transportation hub in northern Gyeonggi Province. We will do our best to establish Yangju City as an important base for commercial and industrial growth within the metropolitan area.”
