"If College Entrance Exams End Like This, Enrollment Quota Must Be Zero in the Year After Next"
Professors and students of Ulsan University College of Medicine, which trains at Seoul Asan Medical Center and other hospitals, along with resigning residents, raised their voices, saying, "The announcement to increase medical school admissions by 2,000 was equivalent to President Yoon Seok-yeol declaring martial law on doctors."
The Emergency Response Committee of Ulsan University College of Medicine (ERC) held a picket protest against the "increase of 2,000 medical school admissions" on the 18th in front of the main gate of Seoul Asan Medical Center in Songpa-gu, Seoul, claiming, "The government used various administrative orders and police forces to intimidate residents."
They added, "Even after the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol was passed, Education Minister Lee Ju-ho and Health and Welfare Minister Cho Kyu-hong have not prepared any measures," and "They too should be immediately dismissed as accomplices in the medical crisis."
The ERC stated, "For the 2025 academic year, the correct decision is to significantly reduce or not select any new medical students from the pre-increase number of 3,058," and also said, "If next year's college entrance process proceeds as is, the medical school admission quota for the 2026 academic year should be zero."
They emphasized, "Whether through the National Stability Council or any other structure, the National Assembly and government must stop the ongoing medical school admission selection process immediately and, together with university presidents, medical school deans, and professors, prepare and implement reduction measures that consider each university's educational conditions and circumstances."
