Provision of contingency funds totaling 669 million won
Mayor Jeong: "Best efforts to recover local economy through cooperation with the council"
Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 18th that it has pre-paid disaster relief funds to 223 small business owners in the area who suffered damage from heavy snowfall at the end of last month.
This support was provided based on the judgment that urgent damage recovery is necessary for small business owners whose livelihoods have been disrupted due to business suspension, and the city urgently allocated contingency funds to provide assistance. Disaster relief funds of 3 million KRW per business were provided, totaling 669 million KRW.
Jung Jang-seon, Mayor of Pyeongtaek, said, "We have swiftly pre-paid the relief funds so that small business owners who have suffered great damage and are in distress due to the heavy snowfall can quickly regain their daily lives," adding, "We will continue to do our best to cooperate with the council to restore the local economy."
Meanwhile, Mayor Jung announced a 'Comprehensive Economic Stabilization Plan' for the recovery of the local economy, which has been struggling due to the impeachment crisis and heavy snowfall damage, during an emergency online briefing the day before. In the briefing, Mayor Jung revealed various support measures for economic recovery across six sectors: budget execution, local commercial districts, local businesses, vulnerable groups, culture and arts, and agriculture.
The plan includes early execution of the city’s budget in the first half of the year, expansion of public procurement, provision of consumption support funds through local currency, support for installment payment of overdue local taxes for small and micro enterprises, one-hour free operation of 50 public parking lots in the area, strengthening the obligation for local construction companies to participate in public orders, and transportation cost support of up to 240,000 KRW per year for seniors aged 70 and above.
