Hanwha Ocean Achieves First Oil Production from Qatar Offshore Facility... Goal Advanced by 2 Weeks

Proven Once Again: Capability in Marine Plant Installation, Commissioning, and Process Management Demonstrated

Hanwha Ocean (CEO President Kim Hee-chul) successfully achieved first oil production on the 15th, two weeks ahead of schedule, for a fixed offshore oil production facility it constructed.

This once again demonstrated Hanwha Ocean's marine plant process management capabilities.

The fixed offshore oil production facility, ordered by Qatar NOC (North Oil Company) in 2021, completed its construction process at the Geoje plant in July and departed for the Al-Shaheen oil field in Qatar, the world's largest offshore oil region.

After about 20 days of sailing, the facility arrived on site and successfully completed various piping and electrical connection works between the topside, jacket, and interconnection bridge, as well as internal equipment and system commissioning over 3.5 months. It achieved first oil production two weeks earlier than planned.

The first oil production is significant as it was conducted safely after preventing marine pollution and securely connecting the facility, marking the start of initial test production. This indicates that full-scale commercial production is now possible. With this early success, Hanwha Ocean has once again proven its technology and competitiveness as a high value-added, high-tech marine plant manufacturer at the world’s highest level.

In particular, Qatar is expected to actively order fixed offshore oil and gas production facilities over the coming years. This achievement is anticipated to have a positive impact on future business activities in the Middle East region.

Especially through this achievement, Hanwha Ocean expects to further accelerate its transformation into an EPCIO (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, and Operation) solution provider.
