Geochang-gun Confirms Cremation Facility Name as 'Cheonsang Park'

Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 18th that the 'Cremation Facility Installation Promotion Committee' selected the name 'Cheonsang Park' for the cremation facility construction site and held an award ceremony.

From August 16 to September 30, the county conducted a naming contest targeting residents to highlight the image of a 'cremation facility like a park without discomfort.' A total of 232 entries were received, demonstrating high interest from the residents.

Through the first preference screening, 33 names were selected, and then the second screening was conducted by the Geochang-gun Cremation Facility Installation Promotion Committee. After in-depth discussions, the list was narrowed down to six candidates, and finally, three names were selected after comprehensively reviewing popularity, suitability, and creativity.

Considering similarities, duplications, and convenience with other regions, the name 'Cheonsang Park' was decided for the construction site. It carries the meaning of "forgetting all the hardships of life on earth and continuing eternal life in a park above the sky."

Gu In-mo, the county governor, said, "I deeply appreciate the residents' great interest and participation in the naming contest for the Geochang-gun cremation facility construction site. We will steadily promote the cremation facility construction project so that we can respectfully send off the deceased at 'A dignified farewell, Cheonsang Park.'"

Meanwhile, Geochang-gun plans to utilize the topographical features of Baesanimsu to the fullest by arranging buildings and internal facilities accordingly, creating an eco-friendly park with walking trails and landscaping facilities to help visitors heal their troubled minds. This space is expected to evolve beyond a simple cremation facility to become a place that provides rest and cultural space for residents.
