Gwangju Dong-gu announced on the 18th that its case, "An Organizational Culture Where Everyone Can Move Forward Together and Achieve Their Dreams," received the Excellence Award at the "2024 Organizational Culture Improvement Best Practices Competition" hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The Organizational Culture Improvement Best Practices Competition is held annually to discover and share efforts and achievements in improving organizational culture among central administrative agencies, local governments nationwide, and offices of education.
This year, out of 53 cases submitted from across the country, 12 were selected as outstanding cases through expert evaluation and advanced to the final judging. Among the award-winning organizations, Gwangju Dong-gu was the only basic local government to receive an Excellence Award or higher.
Since last year, Gwangju Dong-gu has been actively promoting organizational culture improvement to resolve generational conflicts, create a better workplace environment, and enhance integrity in the workplace. In particular, based on an employee survey, the district held a roundtable discussion with all staff and established the "12 Promises of Moving Forward Together," reflecting the discussion results by generation and job rank, thereby setting a milestone for an inclusive organizational culture.
This year, to ensure that the "12 Promises of Moving Forward Together" announced do not remain a mere declaration but lead to tangible improvements, the district benchmarked outstanding organizations nationwide (such as the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Gyeongnam Office of Education, and Korea Forest Service) and encouraged active employee participation through close collaboration among relevant departments (Planning and Budget Office, Administrative Support Division, Legal Affairs and Audit Office, Humanities and Urban Policy Division, etc.), thereby enhancing the sense of improvement in organizational culture.
As a result, the response rate to the all-staff survey more than doubled in both the first and second halves of the year compared to the previous year. In the organizational culture diagnostic survey for the second half of 2024 compared to the first half, there was tangible improvement in all indicator areas of the "12 Promises of Moving Forward Together."
Im Taek, head of Gwangju Dong-gu District Office, said, "Being selected as an outstanding case is all the more meaningful as it is the result of every employee's united efforts," adding, "We will continue to do our best to create an environment where all staff can work happily."
