Connection with the Opening of the Jungbu Naeryuk Railroad
Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation (President Kim Nam-il) signed a business agreement on the 18th at Mungyeong Station with Chungbuk Cultural Foundation (CEO Kim Gap-su) and Gyeongbuk Cultural Foundation (CEO Kim Jae-su) to create and revitalize tourism demand in connection with the opening of the Jungbu Inland Railway.
Mungyeong Station, a key area of the Jungbu Inland Line, a domestic inland railway network, opened on the 30th of last month, establishing a 90-minute living zone between the Seoul metropolitan area and Mungyeong, Gyeongbuk. Accordingly, the corporation and foundations agreed to cooperate in developing specialized local tourism products and discovering content.
The main contents of this business agreement include joint development and planning of tourism products following the opening of the Jungbu Inland Line railway, planning of regionally specialized cultural and artistic products and collaborative marketing, cooperation in cultural tourism research projects and academic exchanges, as well as exchange of Confucian culture tourism content projects and joint marketing.
Mungyeong in Gyeongbuk and Cheongju in Chungbuk, located along the Jungbu Inland Line route, have representative tourist attractions such as Mungyeong Saejae and Suanbo Hot Springs, but transportation convenience and accessibility for tourists from the metropolitan area were somewhat lacking. However, the opening of this inland railway is expected to serve as a catalyst not only for transportation in the Jungbu inland region but also for the revitalization of industry and tourism.
President Kim Nam-il stated, “Through this agreement, we expect it to be an important opportunity to revitalize the local tourism industry and promote cultural exchange,” adding, “We will contribute to the development of the local economy and cultural tourism industry through the development of various tourism products and content discovery linked to the railway opening.”
