Lotte Construction Develops AI Safety Monitoring Technology Based on Worker Behavior

Lotte Construction announced on the 18th that it is developing worker behavior-based AI (artificial intelligence) safety monitoring technology to prevent safety accidents.

Sungkyunkwan University is leading the project, with a consortium of six organizations including the Next-Generation Convergence Technology Institute, Dongguk University WISE Campus, LG Systems, and SmartInside AI conducting the technology development. The consortium is participating in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s National Disaster Safety Research Institute research project titled "Development of Worker Behavior-Based Safety Monitoring Prediction Technology."

Recently, Lotte Construction held a demonstration of the safety monitoring and prediction technology at the construction site of Section 1 of the Gimpo-Paju segment on Expressway No. 400. During the demonstration, workers wore a total of six wearable sensors and performed tasks according to scenarios such as heavy equipment collision and entrapment, abnormal worker behavior patterns, and health monitoring during commuting within the testbed area.

Some scenarios were implemented in a digital twin (virtual simulation model) environment to detect workers’ behavior and location, and monitoring data was collected through fixed cameras. The data was then analyzed using an AI safety management platform equipped with AI models (SSIMS.AI, SmartInside AI) to help prevent safety accidents on site.

A representative from Lotte Construction’s Technology Research Institute stated, "We confirmed the feasibility of the technology development during this demonstration, and we plan to continue expanding competitive technologies through ongoing research and development."
