Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Obtains Exclusive Rights for New Coverage Related to Obesity Treatment and Management

On the 18th, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance announced that it has obtained exclusive usage rights from the General Insurance Association's New Product Review Committee for two new obesity treatment-related coverages and an obesity management service, the first of their kind in the insurance industry.

The coverages and service granted exclusive usage rights are ‘Non-reimbursed GLP-1 Treatment Costs for Major Metabolic Diseases Accompanying Obesity’ for 9 months, ‘Reimbursed GLP-1 Treatment Costs for Diabetes’ for 6 months, and the ‘Obesity Management Service (Fat to Fit)’ for 6 months.

The coverages for ‘Non-reimbursed GLP-1 Treatment Costs for Major Metabolic Diseases Accompanying Obesity’ and ‘Reimbursed GLP-1 Treatment Costs for Diabetes’ can be added as riders to the MyFit Health Insurance and New Naedonnaesam policies currently sold by Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance.

The ‘Non-reimbursed GLP-1 Treatment Costs for Major Metabolic Diseases Accompanying Obesity’ coverage pays the insured amount listed on the insurance policy once annually if the insured is diagnosed with one or more major metabolic diseases (hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia) (with a BMI of 30 or higher at diagnosis) and is prescribed a non-reimbursed GLP-1 class obesity treatment drug at a tertiary hospital for treatment.

The ‘Reimbursed GLP-1 Treatment Costs for Diabetes’ coverage pays the insured amount listed on the insurance policy once upon initial treatment if the insured is diagnosed with diabetes and receives GLP-1 receptor agonist treatment (reimbursed). Customers who receive insurance benefits for GLP-1 treatment are provided with the healthcare service ‘Fat to Fit’ to support lifestyle improvements.

Fat to Fit is a service that helps customers manage obesity through exercise, lifestyle changes, and motivation.
