"Not the Accused Students but the Board Members" Women's Party Accuses Dongduk Women's University Chairman and Others of Embezzlement and Breach of Trust

Public Disclosure Including Allegations of Embezzlement of School Funds in the Accusation Letter
Dongduk Women's University States "Plans to Take Legal Action in the Future"

The Women's Party has filed a complaint against the board of directors of Dongduk Academy, which operates Dongduk Women's University. After the Dongduk Women's University side pointed to the Women's Party as an external force involved in the students' protests, it appears that the Women's Party responded by publicizing the private school corruption issue. On the 17th, the Women's Party and current students of Dongduk Women's University held a press conference in front of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office in Dobong-gu, Seoul, announcing that they would file charges of breach of trust and embezzlement against seven people, including Chairman Jo Won-young and President Kim Myung-ae of Dongduk Women's University.

The complaint, submitted under the names of the Women's Party and lawyer Lee Kyung-ha's law office, detailed suspicions against the accused, including ▲ free residence in apartments in Bangbae-dong and Pyeongchang-dong, which are basic educational properties and income assets of the school corporation ▲ purchase of private houses using the school corporation's tuition accounting ▲ excessive receipt of meeting fees and position allowances ▲ embezzlement of tuition funds. The Women's Party and Dongduk Women's University students mentioned the private school corruption of Dongduk Academy, pointing out that "the school headquarters remain silent and complicit in serious illegal acts such as the board's breach of trust involving hundreds of billions of won, while swiftly taking legal action only against students who raise issues."

Park Jin-sook, Emergency Committee Chairperson of the Women's Party, criticized, "The school headquarters are trying to evade responsibility by branding students who try to correct this as shameless criminals," adding, "They are even mobilizing external forces such as the media and police to incite a witch hunt against the students."

Earlier, on the 10th, lawyer Lee Kyung-ha (Lee Kyung-ha Law Office), who submitted a complaint against the media for 'malicious reporting' targeting Dongduk Women's University students, stated, "If they do not want to be stigmatized as a 'school specializing in suing students,' they should take as strong legal action against this case, which involves suspicions of breach of trust involving hundreds of billions of won, as they did against the students." Their claim is that the root cause of the students' occupation protest was the school itself, which had ignored the corruption allegations against Dongduk Academy. The Women's Party's strong response is a follow-up measure after the school recently mentioned the Women's Party as an 'external force' involved in the protests.

Meanwhile, Dongduk Women's University stated regarding the complaint received that day, "This is a story they have been continuously asserting," and added, "We plan to respond after accurately understanding the details of the complaint," indicating that legal disputes between the two sides are expected to intensify in the future.
