Special Privileges for 14 Existing Instructors
Accused of Obstructing Work
Two current professors at Sookmyung Women's University have been indicted without detention on charges of giving preferential treatment to existing instructors during the selection process for vocal music instructors.
On the 17th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office announced that on the 13th, it had indicted without detention two current vocal music professors at Sookmyung Women's University on charges of obstruction of business for giving preferential treatment to 14 existing instructors who did not attend the practical exam during the instructor recruitment process.
They are accused of awarding passing scores to 14 existing instructors who did not attend the practical exam during the recruitment process for vocal music instructors at Sookmyung Women's University College of Music for the first semester of the 2023 academic year, held in December 2022. The university regulations stipulate that existing instructors whose contract period has expired must follow the new recruitment procedures.
In February of last year, the Sookmyung Women's University Vocal Music Department Recruitment Corruption Committee and the Korean Non-Regular Professors' Labor Union raised controversy by claiming that "14 out of 17 candidates who passed the document screening received passing scores without attending the practical demonstration." In response, Sookmyung Women's University explained that "a practical demonstration was conducted during the second recruitment process for the 14 existing instructors who did not participate in the practical demonstration during the first recruitment."
