Yangpyeong-gun, Promptly Advancing Construction for Safe and Convenient Road Environment Development

Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jin-seon) is focusing on road maintenance and improvement in Yangpyeong-eup to alleviate residents' inconvenience caused by the steep increase in population and vehicle traffic, which has led to the existing road conditions reaching their capacity limits and increased congestion.

According to Yangpyeong-gun on the 17th, the county is first promoting a roundabout improvement project at the north end of Yangpyeong Bridge, a habitual congestion section when entering Yangpyeong-eup from Gangsang-myeon crossing Yangpyeong Bridge. The existing small roundabout has a narrow turning radius and exceeds capacity, causing frequent congestion and potential traffic accidents at the city entrance and exit. To prevent traffic accidents within the intersection and improve vehicle flow, road environment maintenance has been initiated.

Yangpyeong-gun plans to demolish the existing roundabout, create a new right-turn lane to disperse traffic volume, increase road capacity to improve traffic flow, and newly expand and relocate the roundabout to increase the turning radius, facilitating smooth movement of large vehicles. In particular, the delay time at the north end of Yangpyeong Bridge will be reduced from 75.52 seconds per vehicle to 25.72 seconds, significantly easing traffic congestion. The installation of a right-turn lane toward Gaegun-myeon will disperse the flow of straight and right-turning vehicles, guiding traffic directions smoothly and naturally, thereby reducing complexity and preventing vehicle entanglement within the intersection. The project is scheduled for completion in March next year and is being actively promoted to provide a safer and more convenient road environment for commuters.

Additionally, from the north end of Yangpyeong Bridge to about 450 meters near the Jungang Line Railroad and the area around Mulmalgeun Market on Simin-ro, a street environment improvement project involving undergrounding power lines is underway through agreements with Korea Electric Power Corporation and various telecommunications companies. Along with this, the unbalanced road widths of both sides' carriageways and sidewalks are being improved, and a new roundabout is being constructed under the Jungang Line Railroad to connect the east-west axis roads between Yanggeun-ri and Changdae-ri, aiming to resolve traffic inconvenience and create a convenient transportation environment.

Currently, conduits and cable laying for undergrounding power lines have been completed, and the obstructive utility poles are scheduled to be removed by the end of December, with construction completion targeted for March next year. Through this project, the obstructive utility poles that were scattered within the existing sidewalks will be removed and the sidewalks will be refurbished, providing a safe and pleasant walking environment for residents using Yangpyeong Market and creating a more convenient transportation environment, the county expects.
