West Sea Coast Guard Cheong, Inspection and Crackdown on Vulnerable Marine Pollution Sites in Winter

Targeting Offshore Construction Sites and Long-Term Moored Vessels

The West Sea Regional Coast Guard Agency (Commissioner Lee Myung-jun) announced on the 16th that it will conduct inspections and crackdowns on marine pollution vulnerable sites in preparation for worsening weather conditions in the upcoming winter season.

This inspection aims to prevent marine pollution accidents by conducting proactive safety checks focused on offshore construction sites and long-term moored vessels.

The Coast Guard is inspecting sites vulnerable to marine pollution during the winter season. Provided by the West Sea Regional Coast Guard Headquarters.

At offshore construction sites, they plan to check for illegal discharge of pollutants and the proper operation of pollution prevention facilities. For long-term moored vessels, which have not been operated for extended periods and may have deteriorated hulls or insufficient management, they will measure the vessel length, draft, remaining fuel oil, and waste oil to assess the appropriateness of marine pollution risk.

A West Sea Coast Guard official stated, “We are conducting proactive inspections to prevent marine pollution accidents during the winter season,” and added, “We will continuously monitor the safety of the marine environment in the jurisdiction through regular patrols, and we urge vessel owners and managers to thoroughly implement accident prevention measures.”
