SK announced on the 16th that it delivered 27,000 heads of kimchi to vulnerable groups.
This year's delivery ceremony was held at Haengboknarae, a social enterprise established by SK. SK purchased 27,000 heads of kimchi made by three social enterprises and plans to deliver them to 600 social welfare institutions nationwide and 2,600 vulnerable households through the Food Sharing Movement Council (Meokgeo-hyeop).
Considering the increase in neighbors facing difficulties making winter kimchi due to soaring prices of raw materials such as napa cabbage and red pepper powder this year, the donation volume was increased by about 10% compared to last year (25,000 heads).
The delivery ceremony was attended by Kim Gwon-tae, CEO of Okgwa Matitneun Kimchi, Yoon Jong-seon, representative of the Food Sharing Movement Council, Monk Deokwoon of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, Ji Dong-seop, SV Chairman of SK Supex Council, and Park Jae-han, CEO of Haengboknarae. Social enterprises such as Pyeongchang Kkotsuni Kimchi, Juwangsan Kimchi, and Okgwa Matitneun Kimchi, which directly made the kimchi to be delivered to marginalized groups, added significance by donating part of their proceeds at the event.
SK Haengbok Nanum Kimjang has been a representative social contribution activity of SK steadily carried out for the past 29 years. Since 1996, SK group members have gathered to make kimchi themselves and delivered it to vulnerable groups. The total amount of kimchi delivered has reached 1.37 million heads, equivalent to 3,417 tons.
Since 2015, instead of large-scale events attended by members, SK has changed to purchasing kimchi produced by social enterprises and delivering it to neighbors. This allows social enterprises producing kimchi to gain opportunities for brand awareness and sales growth, and also revitalizes the local economy through the use of domestic ingredients and employment of local residents. Since 2022, SK Stoa has been supporting the promotion and sales of kimchi from social enterprises participating in kimchi sharing through special home shopping broadcasts.
