Recognized for Efforts to Attract the 'Honam Semiconductor Cluster'
Kim Gwiseon, a member of the Mokpo City Council (Yongdang 1·2-dong, Yeondong, Samhak-dong), was selected as an outstanding council member at the ‘2024 Korea Local Autonomy Evaluation Legislative Policy Awards’ hosted by the Yeouido Policy Research Institute.
The Yeouido Policy Research Institute annually selects council members who have demonstrated excellent legislative activities to promote local autonomy and awards the ‘Local Autonomy Evaluation Legislative Policy Awards.’ This year as well, the final recipients were announced after evaluating various areas such as election pledge fulfillment rate, ordinance proposals, committee activities, and resolution of local civil complaints. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held on the 20th at the National Assembly Members’ Office Building’s main conference room.
As the vice-chairman of the Mokpo City Council in the first half of the term, Councilor Kim has promoted policies to eliminate welfare blind spots and foster regional development. In particular, he has worked hard to attract the ‘Honam Semiconductor Cluster.’ Through various contributions, interviews, and 5-minute free speeches, he has emphasized cooperation among the three local governments of the Muan Peninsula to attract the ‘Honam Semiconductor Cluster,’ stressing that it should be the region’s core growth engine. These legislative activities received high praise.
On the 16th, Councilor Kim said, “This award is even more meaningful as it is an achievement made together with all members of the Mokpo City Council,” and emphasized, “The semiconductor industry, which is the core of the 4th Industrial Revolution, must be attracted to the Muan Peninsula, a major producer of eco-friendly renewable energy.” He also pointed out that the ‘Honam Semiconductor Cluster’ project has not progressed due to insufficient support from the central government and vowed, “I will do my best together with local civic groups to ensure that attracting the ‘Honam Semiconductor Cluster’ is included in the next presidential candidate’s pledge in the presidential election to be held after the impeachment.”
Meanwhile, Councilor Kim continues active legislative activities, having been elected as vice-chairman in the first half of the 12th Mokpo City Council, following the 10th and 11th terms.
