The Safety and Health Mileage System was introduced to encourage employees' active participation in safety and health activities and to spread a safety culture. It was operated targeting departments responsible for public administrative fieldwork such as building cleaning, environmental sanitation, and cafeteria cooking.

Outstanding departments were selected by comprehensively evaluating various criteria including participation in safety and health activities, accident prevention performance, and implementation of safety and health education. The three departments chosen for their excellent achievements were Mulgeum-eup, Agricultural Policy Division, and Water Purification Division.

In particular, Mulgeum-eup was selected as the best department by receiving high scores in safety and health activities such as discovering and improving near-miss accidents, conducting voluntary safety and health inspections, and accident prevention performance, which evaluates the occurrence of industrial accidents relative to the number of workers by identifying and improving workplace hazards in advance. The selected departments will be awarded a total prize money of 1 million KRW to encourage their achievements and support department operations.

Yangsan City plans to further develop the Safety and Health Mileage System and is reviewing expanding the selection target for the ‘Outstanding Safety and Health Department’ from 2025 to allow more departments and personnel to participate and be recognized. The city will also support all departments to recognize and practice the importance of safety and health through safety and health education programs and accident prevention campaigns.

A Yangsan City official stated, “This system has significantly strengthened employees’ safety awareness and greatly contributed to accident prevention in the workplace. Recently, Yangsan City obtained international safety city certification from the International Safe Community Certifying Centre (ISCCC), marking a new turning point for enhancing the safety of citizens and workers. We will continue to actively encourage participation in safety and health activities to create a safe city free of industrial accidents and workplaces where workers can work with peace of mind.”
