In May, organizations evaluated the passage of the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol, which triggered the '12·3 Emergency Martial Law Incident,' as "a natural result of defending democratic constitutional order."

The three May 18 public law organizations (the Bereaved Families Association, the Injured Association, and the Meritorious Persons Association) and the May 18 Memorial Foundation issued a joint statement on the 14th, stating, "President Yoon's impeachment was passed in the National Assembly in the name of the people's will and justice," and "Another historic milestone has been established in the constitutional history of the Republic of Korea."

The organizations said, "This is a very natural outcome for the protection of democracy and the constitution," emphasizing, "The Yoon Seok-yeol administration has damaged democracy and trampled on the basic rights of the people since taking office."

They added, "By imposing emergency martial law, it distorted and disparaged the noble spirit of the May 18 Democratic Movement, which the May spirits built up with their blood, leaving irreparable wounds to the democratic merit recipients and bereaved families," and "This is an unforgivable act and a serious crime that must be met with thorough investigation and strict legal punishment."

Furthermore, "Impeachment is not the end but the beginning," and "we will inherit the spirit of May 18 and fight to the end so that dictatorship and injustice can never take root again on this land."
