National Assembly to Vote on Yoon's 2nd Impeachment Motion at 5 PM on the 14th
Lee: "Yoon Has No Ability to Perform Duties Even for a Moment"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged members of the People Power Party on the 13th, one day before the vote on the second impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol, to "please join the vote in favor of impeachment tomorrow." After the emergency martial law situation on December 3, the National Assembly attempted to vote on the impeachment motion against President Yoon on the 7th, but the motion was discarded due to a lack of quorum as many People Power Party members were absent.
In a statement released at the National Assembly that morning, Lee said, "Each member of the National Assembly is an independent constitutional institution," adding, "Regardless of party affiliation or political ideology, there is a duty to abide by the Constitution and follow the mandate of the sovereign people." He continued, "Impeachment is the fastest and most certain way to end the chaos," and stated, "History will remember and record your choice." Lee had also issued a statement the day before the first impeachment vote on the 6th. The National Assembly will begin voting on the second impeachment motion against President Yoon at 5 p.m. on the 14th.

Lee criticized the national address delivered by President Yoon the previous day. He said, "Yesterday, President Yoon Seok-yeol declared a mad war against the people," and pointed out, "He 'self-certified' that he is incapable of performing his duties even for a moment and should not perform his duties at all." President Yoon had said the day before, "The opposition party is dancing a frenzied sword dance, claiming that the declaration of martial law constitutes treason," and added, "Whether they impeach me or investigate me, I will face it with confidence."
Lee asserted, "The people's mandate is consistent, unwavering, and clear," and claimed, "'Yoon Seok-yeol, the ringleader of the rebellion, must step down immediately.'" He further said, "On December 14, 2024, we will once again proclaim that the people are the owners of the country," and added, "Although politics seems to be done by politicians, ultimately it is done by the people." Moreover, he stated, "A single misjudgment has left a historical stain," but "the people's correct judgment can rectify this."
