The Democratic Party Decides Party Line to Reject Special Investigation Bill on Insurrection and Kim Geon-hee, and Impeachment Proposals for Park Seong-jae and Jo Ji-ho

Kwon Seong-dong "4th Kim Geon-hee Special Investigation, Worse Than the 3rd"

On the 12th, the People Power Party decided as a party line to vote against the internal rebellion special prosecutor, the Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor law, and the impeachment motions against Minister of Justice Park Seong-jae and National Police Agency Commissioner General Jo Ji-ho, which were to be submitted to the plenary session of the National Assembly.

Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, told reporters after the party meeting on the same day, "We have decided as a party line to reject both impeachment motions against the Minister of Justice and the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency submitted today."

He added, "We have also decided as a party line to reject both the internal rebellion special prosecutor bill and the Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor bill."

When asked by a reporter whether President Yoon should exercise his veto if the Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor law passes, he replied, "That is a matter for the President to decide, not us." He continued, "We have already set a party line to reject the Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor three times, and considering that the President also exercised his veto, he will make a judgment accordingly."

President Yoon stated that he would leave the matter to the party and government after the December 3 emergency martial law incident, but after the national address on the same day, he approved the bills and presidential decrees passed by the Cabinet meeting, effectively signaling his intention to return to state affairs.

Referring to the fact that the Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor bill was rejected three times, he sharply criticized, "The fourth special prosecutor bill is worse than the third. The third special prosecutor bill involved a third-party recommended special prosecutor, but the fourth special prosecutor bill changed it to a special prosecutor recommended by the opposition party."

When asked whether he would participate in the vote on the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol, Floor Leader Kwon said, "The presidential impeachment motion was not included in the report items, so there was no discussion today," and added, "Before becoming floor leader, the party line was set to reject impeachment, so if the presidential impeachment motion is submitted again to the plenary session, I will decide by gathering the consensus of the members, not based on my personal opinion."
