Gwangju City Council Revises and Approves Next Year's Budget at 1.468 Trillion Won

1.2532 billion KRW cut... Gwangju Cultural Foundation operating expenses reduced by 1.0413 billion KRW
Budget adjustments for 9 projects in 5 departments including character emoticon production and distribution 사업

The Gwangju City Council of Gyeonggi Province (Chairman Heo Kyung-haeng) held the 3rd plenary session of the 2nd regular meeting of the 313th session on the 11th and approved the next year's Gwangju City budget, which was comprehensively reviewed by the Budget and Accounts Special Committee, with modifications.

On the 10th, the Budget and Accounts Committee reviewed the '2025 General and Special Account Revenue and Expenditure Budget and Revised Budget' and reduced 1,253.2 million KRW from the requested 1,469.260521 trillion KRW by Gwangju City, adjusting it to 1,468.073210 trillion KRW.


Previously, during the comprehensive review by the Budget and Accounts Special Committee, adjustments were made to the budgets of 9 projects across 5 departments. The reduced projects included △Character Emoticon Production and Distribution Project △Tomato-shaped Streetlight Installation Project △Gwangju City Cultural Foundation Operating Expenses, among others. Notably, the originally requested operating expenses for the Gwangju City Cultural Foundation, which were 8.90797 billion KRW, were adjusted to 7.858797 billion KRW, accounting for 83% of the total reduced budget. The '2025 Fund Operation Plan' was approved as originally proposed without adjustments.


Lee Eun-chae, chairperson of the Budget and Accounts Special Committee, requested that in budget formulation, effective municipal promotion methods for carbon neutrality implementation be devised and that the Cultural Foundation project descriptions be written in a more understandable manner. She also emphasized planning project implementation from a long-term and macro perspective and stressed balance across fields and sectors.


The Budget Committee Chair said, “In these difficult times, I earnestly urge that you never forget that this is the precious taxpayers' money of our Gwangju citizens and to ensure thorough management of the budget.”
