Kyungpook National University President Heo Young-woo: "Through Innovation and Growth, We Will Move Toward a Greater World"

Announced at the 20th President Inauguration Ceremony

The inauguration ceremony of Heo Young-woo, the 20th president of Kyungpook National University, was held at 4 p.m. on the 11th at the KNU Global Plaza. Heo Young-woo was appointed as the 20th president of KNU on the 15th of last month.

Considering the social atmosphere, the ceremony was conducted simply, omitting the usual congratulatory performances. The scale of external guests was reduced, focusing on communication and unity among internal members.

In his inaugural speech, President Heo stated, “The new 100 years of Kyungpook National University begins with true innovation. The university will become a driving force for regional innovation and a place where students learn the spirit of truth, pride, and service to venture into a wider world. KNU will fulfill this mission.” He added, “We will cultivate talents who lead the era through sustainable innovation and growth to create ‘KNU, a world-class university that the world pays attention to.’”

President Heo continued, “At a time when everyone talks about crisis, our Kyungpook National University takes a big step forward. As a top 100 world-class university attracting global attention, ‘More Action KNU’?acting more and becoming a vibrant university?we will move forward boldly, wisely, and into a greater world.”

Heo Young-woo graduated with a bachelor's and master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering from KNU and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Florida in the United States. Since 2005, he has served as a professor at KNU. He has held positions such as Dean of the College of Engineering and Director of the Graduate School of Industry at KNU, President of the Transparent Oxide Semiconductor Research Association, and Specialist Committee Member of the National Research Foundation of Korea.
