Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seongheon) announced on the 11th that it recently conducted self-defense safety training for about 40 welfare visiting personnel, including social welfare officers and visiting nurses from the Dong Community Service Center, at the 8th floor Misojium Hall of Seodaemun-gu Health Center.

Welfare personnel who visit target households to provide civil service consultations and welfare services may face unexpected risks such as verbal abuse, violence, and sexual harassment during work. The risk increases especially when welfare services cannot be provided due to not meeting the criteria.
To enhance the ability to respond to such situations, the district conducted training covering topics such as self-defense mobile applications, responses in emergency situations, self-defense using personal belongings, and virtual scenario exercises, along with practical training.
Mayor Lee Seongheon said, “The safety of welfare visiting personnel enables smoother civil service, so we will continue to strive for improving working conditions and fostering a proper civil service culture for the happiness of residents and staff by 200%.”
Seodaemun-gu plans to establish a ‘Safety Support Plan for Social Welfare Personnel at Dong Community Service Centers’ and is committed to supporting safety enhancement and building a systematic safety management system.
