Gangnam-gu and GKL Collaborate on Public-Private ESG Project, Employing 31 Career-Interrupted Women

Trained as a Specialist Instructor in the Environmental Field

Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) announced on the 11th that through the ‘ESG Together Challenge Project’ in collaboration with Grand Korea Leisure (GKL), 31 career-interrupted women were trained as environmental instructors, and environmental education was provided to 4,555 local residents according to their life cycle.

GKL is a quasi-market public enterprise operating the foreigner-only casino Seven Luck. Gangnam-gu has been selected for two consecutive years since last year in the ‘Public Contest Project for Realizing Social Value’ hosted by GKL, and has promoted public-private partnership projects. This year, with a project budget of 55 million KRW secured, various projects linked with the local community were carried out, including training career-interrupted women as environmental leaders, life cycle-based visiting environmental education, and ESG campaign activities.


The district educated a total of 46 people through training new environmental instructors and refresher courses for existing instructors. Among them, 31 succeeded in employment as environmental instructors and conducted environmental education for 4,555 children, adolescents, and seniors at 48 institutions. During the education process, the environmental instructors directly developed educational tools, and 13 of them voluntarily established a cooperative, obtained KC certification for the tools, and plan to enter and sell through an online shopping mall.


According to the district, this education received high evaluations from the trainees. A satisfaction survey of the environmental leader training course showed that 99% responded they were satisfied, and the visiting life cycle-based environmental education also recorded a high satisfaction rate of over 95%.


District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong stated, “This project has achieved results in supporting the employment of career-interrupted women and raising environmental awareness in the local community,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to realize ESG values and create a sustainable Gangnam through active public-private cooperation.”
