Geumcheon-gu Selected as Best in Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Neulbom School Linked Cooperation Excellence Contest
‘Chaekmaeul’ Operation and ‘New Sports Expedition’ Chosen as Best Basic Local Government Cases
Strengthening Care Linked with Local Resources and Promoting Diversified After-School Programs
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it was selected as the best case in the “Excellent Cases of Local Governments’ Neulbom School Linkage and Cooperation Contest” hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
This contest was promoted to strengthen cooperation between local governments and education (support) offices in line with the full implementation of Neulbom School in 2024, and to discover and spread Neulbom School operation cases reflecting regional characteristics and demands.
Geumcheon-gu received high evaluations through its district-specialized projects linked with Neulbom School, such as the Geumcheon-type elementary care center “Chaekmaeul” and the Neulbom program “New Sports Exploration Team” operated at Geumnarae Elementary School.
With this selection as the best case, the district will receive the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award and special grant funds.
“Chaekmaeul” means “a village embracing books,” a care program for elementary students utilizing easily accessible small library spaces.
It operates various programs such as vacation and Saturday care, support for going to and from school, reading activities, and science experiences to resolve care gaps. In addition, it cooperates with lifelong education activists in the region called “Geumcheon Village Teachers” to conduct reading culture programs and experiential activities.
The “New Sports Exploration Team,” operated as a Neulbom program, is a physical education program tailored for elementary students that simplifies existing sports events. It provides physical activities such as Bigminton, mini soccer, and kangaroo sack at the Geumnarae Cultural Sports Center gymnasium for first-grade elementary students, allowing them to easily enjoy and participate.
The district was also recognized for building a care environment by linking various local resources through cooperation with related organizations.
In cooperation with the Geumcheon Cultural Foundation, small library spaces are provided, and with the cooperation of the Geumcheon-gu Facilities Management Corporation, the “New Sports Exploration Team” program is operated at the Geumnarae Cultural Sports Center gymnasium. The Southern Education Support Office strengthened communication between schools and the local community and discovered programs that help elementary students’ physical activities and emotional stability.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “Geumcheon-gu has been promoting various types of care and after-school support projects to resolve care gaps for elementary students. Going forward, we will discover and link local resources tailored to the demands of each school to stabilize Neulbom School and create a care environment that parents can trust.”
Meanwhile, Neulbom School was introduced to resolve difficulties in elementary student care and the burden of private education expenses. It provides a comprehensive educational program for students’ growth and development by linking various educational resources from schools and local communities outside regular classes.
