Director Song Ju-yeon of Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences awarded Busan Mayor's Commendation for contributions to nuclear safety and radiation disaster prevention measures

Active Citizen Participation, Resident Protection Measures, and Establishment of Radiation Disaster Prevention System

Song Ju-yeon, Director of the Radiation Emergency Medical Center at the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center (Director Lee Chang-hoon), received a commendation from the Mayor of Busan in 2024 for contributions to nuclear safety and radiation disaster prevention measures.

Director Song Ju-yeon (Head of the Pathology Department) actively participated in joint radiation disaster prevention drills, fulfilling the role of radiation emergency medical care. She also supported radiation disaster prevention education by teaching local residents and students about radiation emergency procedures and introduction methods, earning the commendation from the Mayor of Busan for her significant contributions to practical training.

In particular, in 2024 alone, she conducted three joint drills and carried out 32 on-site tours and educational sessions for local residents, students, and related organizations, demonstrating proactive support and leadership in radiation disaster prevention training. With a creative and proactive attitude, she conducted nuclear safety and radiation disaster prevention training, strengthening the capabilities of the radiation emergency medical center near nuclear power plants.

Director Song Ju-yeon stated, “I am working closely with the Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences, the national radiation emergency medical center, actively adopting systems with the mindset of laying the foundation for radiation emergency medical care in the area with the highest concentration of nuclear power plants.” She added, “With a sense of mission to protect the safety of residents near nuclear power plants, I will strive to develop programs for local residents, establish emergency medical systems, and expand essential personnel and infrastructure.”

The 2024 Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center Radiation Emergency Medical Symposium is scheduled to be held on the 12th at 3 p.m. in the main auditorium of the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center.

Now in its third year, the Radiation Emergency Medical Symposium will focus on establishing regional bases for radiation disaster response. Presentations will be given by Cho Min-su, Director of the National Radiation Emergency Medical Center, and Jung Kyu-hwan, Head of the Radiation Regulation Division at the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety, among others.
