9 Fishermen and 6 Fishing Boat Crew... "Promoting Revitalization of Fishing Villages"
Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Yeong-min) announced on the 10th that 15 people (9 in aquaculture, 6 in fishing vessel operations) have been selected for the 2025 Youth Fishing Village Settlement Support Project implemented by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
This project provides settlement support funds of up to 1.1 million KRW per month for up to three years to local residents and young returnees to fishing villages under the age of 40 with less than three years of fishery management experience, aiming to revitalize fishing villages through the influx of young manpower.

The county selected a total of 15 people through a public recruitment in October this year, conducting a first round of document screening and a second round of face-to-face interviews from 18 applicants.
The selected candidates will receive settlement support funds differentiated by fishery experience, with 1.1 million KRW per month in the first year, 1 million KRW in the second year, and 900,000 KRW in the third year, covering fishery management expenses and household funds for fishing households.
A county official said, “We expect this project to help young people settle and revitalize fishing villages,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to implement population policies to achieve a population of 100,000 in Gohung by 2030.”
Meanwhile, Gohung-gun is promoting various policies to boost local vitality and regional economic activation through new opportunities for youth, including the creation of 500 housing lots and rental housing by region by 2026, the youth ‘Return Gohung’ project, operation of a youth leader academy, and corporate job support projects.
