While helping international students get through the winter, the event also reinforced the meaning of an eco-friendly campus by promoting the reuse of winter clothes.
On the 10th, Dongmyeong University's International Student Support Office held a heartwarming bazaar in the seminar room of the Busan International College (BIC), distributing winter coats and daily necessities to foreign international students. Through the recycling of donated coats, the event emphasized the significance of an eco-friendly campus and introduced Korean seasonal customs.
School principals from frontline schools, including Principal Ok Chang-yeon of Suyeong Middle School, participated in collecting items. Dongmyeong University also independently gathered winter coats and everyday items from university students, allowing those in need to freely choose and share them.
The students added meaning by voluntarily donating a certain amount for the items they selected, which was then used to support school supplies for other international students.
Han Jun-gi, head of the International Student Support Office, explained, “International students from hot countries may have the happy challenge of enduring the cold weather while looking forward to a snowy Christmas. Thanks to the donations from generous individuals, we were able to hold the ‘Warm Winter Clothing Sharing’ event. It also holds great significance in realizing a green campus through recycling and environmental protection.”
President Jeon Ho-hwan, who visited the event site and contributed donations, emphasized, “This will greatly help international students settle in the local community and enjoy their life in Korea, ultimately establishing themselves as healthy citizens of Busan. We plan to hold such events at least once a year.”
