Kim Yong-hyun Facing Detention on 'Rebellion Charges'...Warrant Hearing Begins Without Him

Decision on Detention Expected as Early as This Day

Former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun, who led the '12·3 Emergency Martial Law Incident,' is on the verge of being detained.

Nam Cheon-gyu, the warrant judge at the Seoul Central District Court, held a pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant substantive examination) at around 3 p.m. on the 10th for Kim, who is accused of engaging in important duties related to rebellion and obstructing the exercise of rights through abuse of authority.

Only prosecutors from the Special Investigation Headquarters for Emergency Martial Law appeared in court.

Earlier, Kim, through his lawyer, expressed the position that "all responsibility lies solely with me," then waived the warrant hearing and did not appear. The lawyer also did not appear in court.

Accordingly, the court plans to decide on detention based solely on the arrest warrant application and evidence submitted by the prosecution, assessing the necessity of securing custody.

The result is expected to be announced late at night on the same day or in the early hours of the 11th.
