Ordinance for Operation of Happy Taxi in Public Transportation Underserved Areas Passed
Cheongyang County in South Chungcheong Province is recruiting new users by revising the ordinance for the operation of the Haengbok Taxi, which was introduced to protect the transportation rights of residents in areas underserved by public transportation.
The county announced on the 10th that the revised ‘Ordinance on the Operation of the Haengbok Taxi in Public Transportation Underserved Areas’ was passed by the Cheongyang County Council on the 3rd, and that the recruitment of new users and the selection criteria for beneficiaries have been reorganized to operate the Haengbok Taxi service.
Additionally, based on a survey conducted from August to September this year on the operation of the Haengbok Taxi, the ordinance was completely revised by abolishing the provision for designating specific villages as eligible, and adjusting the eligibility to include residents aged 65 or older and students attending school within the county who live more than 800 meters from a bus stop. Previously, any resident living in a designated village could use the service.
The Haengbok Taxi can be used up to four times per household per month, and the fare has been reduced from 1,500 won to 1,000 won. Payment can only be made with a card issued by the county.
Those wishing to use the Haengbok Taxi can apply by visiting their local town or township office from the 16th until January 17, 2025.
Kim Dongon, Governor of Cheongyang County, stated, “The Haengbok Taxi is a project to protect the basic transportation rights of residents in underserved areas, and this complete overhaul is not the end but a new beginning,” adding, “We will continue our efforts to implement efficient transportation administration tailored to the circumstances of the county.”
