Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi Province announced on the 10th that it has detected two cases of illegal landfill through intensive crackdowns by operating an Illegal Landfill Crackdown Task Force (TF).

Since this month, Yeoncheon-gun has formed the Illegal Landfill Crackdown TF consisting of personnel responsible for farmland landfill, forest damage, environmental protection, and development activities, and deployed two monitors to intensively crack down on illegal activities.
The Illegal Landfill Crackdown TF detected two illegal acts violating the Framework Act on the National Land and the Mountainous Area Management Act during a one-week intensive crackdown and reported them to the Yeoncheon Police Station.
Yeoncheon-gun is continuously issuing correction orders and filing complaints regarding illegal activities, but since the level of punishment is low, illegal landfill activities are rampant. Therefore, the TF will operate until June 30 next year and plans to respond more strongly by reporting illegal activities to judicial authorities.
A Yeoncheon-gun official stated, “To prevent additional illegal activities in the future, we plan to hold meetings with the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office, Yeoncheon Police Station, and Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police to further enhance the efficiency of crackdowns.”
