Gapyeong-gun Honored with Grand Prize as Best Local Government in 'Budget Efficiency Case Evaluation'

Jarasum Flower Festa Recognized for 17.7 Billion Won Economic Impact

Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Seo Tae-won) announced on the 10th that it was selected as the best local government and awarded the grand prize in the ‘2024 Budget Efficiency Case Evaluation’ hosted by the Taxpayers Movement for Proper Use of Taxes.

This evaluation selected outstanding local governments by reviewing budget execution cases nationwide through a blind method (evaluating while excluding factors that may cause bias).

Gapyeong-gun earned the honor of receiving the grand prize in recognition of its success in hosting the ‘2024 Jaraseom Flower Festa,’ which generated direct and indirect economic effects amounting to 17.7 billion KRW.

The Jaraseom Flower Festa is an event established as Gapyeong-gun’s representative festival. Held annually since 2020 in spring (May to June) and autumn (September to October), it features seasonally distinctive flower gardens, performances, exhibitions, and experience programs, receiving great responses from visitors. This year, approximately 360,000 tourists visited the event site, invigorating the local economy.

Governor Seo Tae-won stated, “This grand prize is a valuable achievement accomplished together with the residents,” and added, “We will continue to operate the budget efficiently to revitalize the local economy and realize advanced administration that earns the trust of our residents.”

Meanwhile, the Taxpayers Movement for Proper Use of Taxes, launched in 2012 as a non-profit organization, has been monitoring tax waste and encouraging transparent policy implementation. In particular, it leads efforts to realize a sustainable society by curbing populist policies and promoting efficient budget execution.

This award is evaluated as an excellent case nationally recognized for Gapyeong-gun’s responsible budget execution and ability to operate regionally specialized events.
