Finance Ministry meets with Acting Chinese Ambassador to Korea: "Political impact limited... Economic system remains strong"

"Han, Responding to Volatility in Financial and Foreign Exchange Markets"

The Ministry of Economy and Finance announced that Choi Ji-young, Director General of International Economic Affairs at the Ministry, met with Pang Kun, Charg? d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Korea, at the Government Seoul Office on the 10th.


At the meeting, Director General Choi said, "Given the recent political situation, there may be considerable concerns from headquarters, including companies operating in Korea," but added, "Our government is proactively responding to volatility in the financial and foreign exchange markets in cooperation with the Bank of Korea."


He continued, "Our economic system is robust, and the government's emergency response system is operating stably." He also emphasized, "Looking at past cases, shocks caused by non-economic factors such as politics have been limited and have had almost no impact in the mid to long term."

Director General Choi also stated, "We will continue meticulous policy responses to ensure that all economic actors, including companies in Korea and foreign investors, can conduct economic activities as usual."


In response, Charg? d'Affaires Pang said, "As close neighbors and important cooperation partners, we hope to maintain Korea's economic and social stability," and added, "Since various fields of economic cooperation and human exchanges such as tourism are actively taking place between the two countries, let us continue to cooperate closely through ongoing communication."


The Ministry of Economy and Finance plans to maintain close communication with embassies of major countries in Korea to reduce unnecessary misunderstandings about our economic situation and to inform them of policy response efforts.
