Iksan City in Jeonbuk has completed the ‘Godo Streetscape Improvement Project’ centered on Geumma and Godo streets in Geumma-myeon.

According to the city on the 10th, this project involved renovating the facades of 29 aging commercial buildings located along Geumma-gil and Godo-gil roads in the Godo district to improve the residential environment and revitalize the commercial area. The renovations included tiled exterior finishes, tiled roofs, and the installation of balustrades.

Previously, in 2022, the city carried out a streetscape improvement project on 13 locations, which received great public response. Reflecting residents’ opinions for additional renovations and to strengthen the image of the Godo area, the city proceeded with this project this year with national funding support from the Cultural Heritage Administration.

A resident stated, “This streetscape improvement project, along with the opening of the Godo ‘Hanun-ae (愛) Iksan World Heritage Center,’ is expected to greatly contribute not only to creating a pleasant local environment but also to revitalizing the commercial district.”

A city official said, “Iksan is the birthplace of Han culture and the capital of Baekje, a city with historical and cultural wonders,” adding, “We will do our best to promote the project so that Godo’s identity is established and it can be reborn as a competitive historical and cultural city.”

Meanwhile, the city is promoting the ‘Godo Image Discovery Project’ to preserve the historical and cultural environment of the Godo district in Geumma and Wanggung-myeon. Major projects completed include the restoration of the old waterway of Okryongcheon Stream, the Wanggung Tap-ri Village landscape project, signboard maintenance, the creation of convenience facilities such as parking lots, and the traditional landscape formation of the Geumma-myeon Administrative Welfare Center.
