December 11th, 10 AM: Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall 2nd Resident Guide Inauguration Ceremony Held
Geumcheon Residents Directly Promote the History of Geumcheon-gu
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that the 2nd term Resident Narrator Inauguration Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on December 11 at Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall (6th floor, 6, Geumha-ro 24-gil, Geumcheon-gu).
The district has been operating resident narrator training programs since 2022 to establish Geumcheon-gu’s historical identity and to enhance residents’ historical awareness and pride.
The training was conducted 12 times from April to July to help participants understand the local history. The curriculum included theoretical studies on Geumcheon-gu’s history and King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty, visits to the Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall, and field trips to related institutions.
Additionally, practical sessions were held where participants composed their own narration scripts to strengthen their expertise.
The district conducted demonstration evaluations for the graduates and selected eight prospective narrators. After a probation period in November, the prospective narrators will officially begin their activities as resident narrators starting in 2025.
At the inauguration ceremony, the eight resident narrators will receive their appointment certificates, and participants will experience the ongoing educational programs at the Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall. There will also be a session for sharing experiences and know-how from the 1st term resident narrators to strengthen communication and cooperation between senior and junior narrators.
Currently, seven 1st term resident narrators are active at the Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall, providing in-depth explanations to visitors and educational program participants, thereby increasing residents’ interest in history.
A district official stated, “The resident narrator training program is designed to help local residents gain a deeper understanding of Geumcheon-gu’s history and culture and to widely promote the district’s cultural heritage. We expect the newly appointed narrators to actively engage at the Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall and provide visitors with richer and more meaningful narrations.”
A prospective resident narrator expressed, “I am glad to have learned more about our area through this training course, and I feel proud to be able to explain the local history to our neighbors and children. I will continue to study diligently to widely share Geumcheon’s history.”
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “The resident narrators operating through the Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall are meaningful because they directly inform our residents about our district’s cultural heritage. I congratulate the 2nd term resident narrators on their official activities and hope they will work together to promote our local history and culture.”
The Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall is open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and any visiting residents can listen to the resident narrators’ explanations free of charge.
