Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon reiterated that the economy is deteriorating due to the sharp rise in exchange rates amid uncertain political schedules, and emphasized that the only solution is the impeachment of Yoon Seok-yeol.
After visiting the “Immediate Impeachment of Yoon Seok-yeol! Emergency Sit-in to Prevent the Han Dong-hoon - Han Deok-su Loyalist Coup” site in front of the main building of the National Assembly on the night of the 9th, Governor Kim told reporters, "I came today to support and encourage the lawmakers who are fasting in the (Democratic Party of Korea) and working toward the impeachment of Yoon Seok-yeol," adding, "Coming to the National Assembly site where martial law troops have trampled on our democratic constitution, I cannot help but feel deeply troubled and distressed."
He continued, "What worries me most (about this emergency martial law by Yoon Seok-yeol) is the economy," diagnosing, "The stock market is in a 'Sell Korea' state, with foreign net sales exceeding 1 trillion won in just three days."
He also expressed concern, saying, "The exchange rate is approaching the 1,450 won level, and various problems are emerging, including considerations of overseas investment agreements," and "Above all, self-employed people, small business owners, and our small and medium-sized enterprises are all currently in very difficult situations."
He added, "Based on my experience working together to overcome the 1997 IMF crisis and the 2008 global financial crisis, I am most worried about how much this unfortunate situation will cause a huge shock and problems to our economy."
Furthermore, he stated, "The solution to revive the economy now is to quickly finalize the uncertain political timetable and stabilize the situation," emphasizing, "For that, there is no answer other than immediate resignation and immediate impeachment."
