Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced the results of the food waste reduction campaign ‘3GO Practice Movement’ (Make less GO, Remove moisture GO, Reduce leftover food GO), conducted from July to November targeting apartment complexes in the area, and provided 75ℓ general volume-based waste bags as incentives to six apartment complexes with outstanding reduction performance.

The ‘3GO Practice Movement’ is a project that evaluates the food waste reduction performance of apartment complexes implementing the RFID volume-based waste system compared to the same period last year and rewards outstanding apartment complexes with incentives.
Namyangju City promotes the ‘3GO Practice Movement’ annually to encourage resident participation and spread a culture of waste reduction, receiving positive responses from citizens.
This year, out of 163 participating apartment complexes, 88 succeeded in reducing food waste emissions compared to the previous year.
Residents achieved a triple benefit by reducing food waste, lowering disposal fees, receiving incentives, and protecting the environment.
The Dasan Geumgang Pentarium Rivert Terrace 2nd Apartment, selected as the top-performing complex, reduced emissions by 16.51% compared to the previous year. The excellent complexes included Onam Shinwoo Ideal 1st Apartment and Plurium 5th Complex, while the encouraging complexes were Osan Doosan 2nd Apartment, Dasan New Town Nature & Prugio, and Hopyeong Hanla Vivaldi Apartment, all of which received differentiated 75L volume-based waste bags.
The RFID volume-based waste system charges fees based on the amount disposed by each household, allowing real-time monitoring of waste emissions, making it effective for waste reduction and management. As the annual adoption rate increases, the per capita food waste generation has been decreasing by more than 4% each year, proving its effectiveness.
In particular, according to this year’s satisfaction survey on the RFID volume-based waste system conducted by the city (with a 70% response rate), 81% of apartment complexes were satisfied with the system, and 84% showed positive responses toward its expanded implementation.
The city plans to continue its efforts to reduce food waste by actively promoting the free installation support project for RFID volume-based waste devices in 2025.
