Busan Gijang-gun Ranks No.1 Nationwide in County-Level Management Performance of Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index

Achieving High Satisfaction in Military Administration, Proving Local Autonomy Competitiveness... Maintaining Top Rank for 2 Consecutive Years

Busan Gijang-gun was recognized for its high local autonomy competitiveness in the Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index (KLCI) evaluation conducted nationwide across 226 cities, counties, and districts, achieving first place nationwide in the county-level management performance category.

The Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index is a credible evaluation developed in 1996 by the Korea Public Autonomy Research Institute, a non-profit organization, and has been conducted for 29 years to serve as basic data for investment and site planning for businesses.

Every year, about 40,000 basic data points from statistical yearbooks of local governments and official statistics from related institutions are used to evaluate the competitiveness of local governments through 80 indicators divided into three categories: ▲management resources ▲management activities ▲management performance.

This year, Gijang-gun scored 544.4 points in the comprehensive competitiveness category of the KLCI analysis, ranking third nationwide among counties. In the management performance category, it achieved first place among 82 counties.

Notably, the comprehensive competitiveness ranking soared vertically from 13th place in 2022 to 2nd place in 2023, and this year it maintained 3rd place, sustaining its position as a top-tier county nationwide for two consecutive years.

The county analyzes that this evaluation result not only externally recognizes the increased urban competitiveness since the inauguration of Mayor Jeong Jong-bok in the 8th local government term but also shows that key policies of the 8th term have entered their main track, producing visible outcomes.

Mayor Jeong Jong-bok stated, “Since taking office, we have identified policy demands of residents through public opinion surveys and communicated directly with residents by operating on-site civil complaint offices, implementing county administration that allows residents to feel tangible changes.” He added, “We will realize the 8th term vision of ‘A city embracing happiness, opening the future of Gijang’ by promoting high-quality county administration in various fields such as transportation, education, culture, welfare, housing, and advanced industries.”

On the 9th, Gijang-gun received the ‘Excellent Institution Certificate’ for the 2024 Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index evaluation from the Korea Public Autonomy Research Institute (CEO Lee Ki-heon) at the briefing room on the 3rd floor of Gijang-gun Office.
