The Ministry of Justice has imposed a travel ban on President Yoon Seok-yeol, who has been booked on charges of insurrection related to the 'December 3 Emergency Martial Law' incident.
On the afternoon of the 9th, Bae Sang-eop, Head of the Immigration and Foreign Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Justice, announced at the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee plenary session that a travel ban had been imposed on President Yoon.
Earlier, the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office (HOCI) and the prosecution had requested the Ministry of Justice to impose a travel ban on President Yoon.
On the same day, at the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee plenary session, Oh Dong-woon, Director of HOCI, responded to the inquiry by Jeong Cheong-rae, Chairman of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, who said, "The ringleader of the insurrection and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces should be subject to a travel ban first," by stating, "I directed the investigation to impose the travel ban."
The HOCI requested the prosecution and police to transfer the emergency martial law-related case the day before. Lee Jae-seung, Deputy Director of HOCI, explained in a briefing, "Considering that the investigation is in its early stages and there are controversies regarding the fairness of the prosecution and police investigations, we exercised our authority to request the transfer."
