Improving Residents' Quality of Life through Dementia-Friendly Environment Creation
Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Seo Tae-won) announced on the 9th that Sanyu-ri in Gapyeong-eup has been designated as the "2nd Dementia Safe Village." A Dementia Safe Village is a community where all residents create a dementia-friendly environment so that dementia patients and their families can live safely together with their neighbors.

Sanyu-ri was recently selected as a Dementia Safe Village after receiving high evaluations in terms of residents' willingness to participate, the number of elderly residents, the number of dementia patients, and securing educational spaces among three villages that applied through an open recruitment in July.
Accordingly, a plaque ceremony was held at the village hall to commemorate the recent designation of Sanyu-ri as a Dementia Safe Village, attended by about 50 residents including Jeong Yeon-pyo, the head of the health center, and Jang Seok-mok, the chairman of the operating committee.
As a designated Dementia Safe Village, Sanyu-ri will expand education and promotional activities aimed at dementia prevention and awareness improvement. In particular, a new "Visiting Dementia Prevention Class" will be operated so that village residents can participate in dementia prevention programs nearby.
Jeong Yeon-pyo, head of the Gapyeong-gun Health Center, said, "We will do our best to create an environment where dementia patients and their families can live with peace of mind through various programs tailored to the characteristics of the village."
Meanwhile, Gapyeong-gun's first Dementia Safe Village is Hacheon 1-ri in Cheongpyeong-myeon, which has been actively operated since its designation in 2018 and was recognized for its excellent performance by being selected as an "Outstanding Dementia Safe Village" by the Ministry of Health and Welfare last November.
