Cultural Event Commemorating Award Ceremony at Mudeung Library on the 10th
The Gwangju Municipal Library presents various programs to offer citizens a special literary experience in celebration of author Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature award.
On the day of the Nobel Prize in Literature ceremony, the 10th, the Gwangju Municipal Library will hold a reading session from 2 p.m. in the main conference room of Mudeung Library. Five readers, including members of reading clubs, participants in transcription activities, and citizens who enjoy reading in Bitgoeul, will participate to share and reflect on Han Kang's works together.
There will also be a vocal duet performance that musically reinterprets the literary worlds of Gwangju and author Han Kang. The harmonious blend of an emotional soprano and a profound baritone is expected to deliver deep inspiration.
From 3 p.m., a lecture by Kim Jung-woon, director of the Institute for Various Issues Research, will follow. Director Kim will explore the starting point of creative perspectives under the theme "Creative Gaze: Since When Have Humans Been Creative?"
From the 10th to the 31st, the exhibition space on the first floor of the library will display key sentences from Nobel Prize-winning works transcribed by citizens themselves. This exhibition, featuring participants' heartfelt handwriting and sentences, is expected to reaffirm the emotional impact of Han Kang's works.
The Gwangju Municipal Library will also lift borrowing suspensions for overdue users to encourage more citizens to enjoy reading. Participation registration is available on the Gwangju Municipal Library website, and detailed information can be obtained by contacting Mudeung Library.
Song Kyung-hee, director of the Municipal Library, said, "We hope that this event, prepared to commemorate the Nobel Prize in Literature ceremony, will raise awareness of the value of literature and arts and provide citizens with an opportunity for a rich cultural experience."
