Statement Made Through Personal Facebook
"No More Unfortunate Presidents Should Emerge"
Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheol-woo said on Facebook on the 8th, "Let us unite our efforts to normalize everything after the rejection of the presidential impeachment motion."
The governor stated, "It is a great relief that the impeachment motion was rejected. We must prevent the habitual impeachment of presidents to be considered an advanced country," and added, "Our country is an economic powerhouse beyond the level that justifies a presidential monarchy system. Therefore, it is necessary to consider constitutional amendments toward an advanced country model, such as a cabinet system or a dual executive system, on this occasion. Through constitutional amendments, we must address the divided public sentiment by shortening the president's term."
He continued, "During the previous impeachment of President Park Geun-hye, I requested a term reduction through constitutional amendment rather than impeachment, and to enforce this, I even held a solo protest with a placard saying, 'Shall we create another unfortunate president or amend the constitution?' Even now, I regret that if we had amended the constitution back then, today's situation might have been prevented," he recalled.
Governor Lee Cheol-woo also said, "No more unfortunate presidents should emerge in our country. We must create a new Republic of Korea through constitutional amendment on this occasion. The party also needs a complete overhaul. In a divided and fragmented party, the members have lost the trust and momentum to move forward together," he asserted.
The governor stated, "Under the banner of liberal democracy, the party must transform into a practical party that prioritizes the people's lives and economic growth by realizing fundamental values. A comprehensive reform plan is needed with a renewed attitude, including strengthening training and education for a new future, which I have repeatedly emphasized. Now, political change is necessary to enrich lives and achieve national unity," and promised, "I hope the residents of Gyeongbuk will focus on their daily lives during the year-end and New Year holidays, and Gyeongbuk Province will do its utmost to restore the daily lives of its residents."
