Achievement of 8 Consecutive Years as an Excellent Institution with Selection in 4 Fields through Welfare Projects Reflecting Local Conditions and Resident Needs... Operation of Comprehensive Welfare Counseling Center, Identification of Welfare Blind Spots and Customized Welfare Service Linkage, Sustainable Social Job Creation, and Fraudulent Benefit Management Performance
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) announced that it has been honored with the 'Grand Prize' in the Ministry of Health and Welfare's '2024 Regional Welfare Project Evaluation.'
The 'Regional Welfare Project Evaluation' targets 229 local governments nationwide to discover and spread leading and innovative regional welfare best practices, selected through rigorous screening by external experts.
Seongdong-gu received excellent evaluations in four areas: ▲ Creation of social service jobs (Grand Prize) ▲ Management of social security fraud prevention (Grand Prize) ▲ Provision of visiting health and welfare services (Excellence Award) ▲ Public-private cooperation and resource linkage (Excellence Award).
In particular, following last year, this year it also won the 'Grand Prize' in two categories, being selected as an excellent institution for eight consecutive years, further solidifying the position of Welfare Seongdong.
The district operates a specialized workforce called the 'Chomchom Balguldan' to discover welfare blind spots, promotes the ‘Care SOS Project’ to address care gaps, and is making proactive efforts such as implementing the nation’s first Seongdong-type essential worker support policy and improving treatment for career-holding women and social welfare workers.
These achievements led to the 'Grand Prize' in the 'Creation of Social Service Jobs' category. The district was highly evaluated for proactively identifying isolated and crisis households, linking them to customized welfare services, and creating sustainable, quality social service jobs.
Also, in the 'Management of Social Security Fraud Prevention' sector, the district improved guidance and inspection methods by forming a dedicated team for fraud prevention and proper management, enhancing fairness and professionalism, and was recognized for efforts to prevent welfare finance leakage through customized fraud prevention education and campaigns for each target group, receiving the 'Grand Prize' for four consecutive years.
In the 'Provision of Visiting Health and Welfare Services' category, the district won the 'Excellence Award' for achievements such as proactively identifying and preventing crisis households through rooftop dwelling household surveys using the Welfare Safety Council, and establishing the one-stop 'Seongdong Welfare Comprehensive Counseling Center' to improve welfare accessibility.
Finally, in the 'Public-Private Cooperation and Resource Linkage' category, the district received the 'Excellence Award' for operating joint public-private cooperation projects by target and sector with 71 participating private organizations in the Community Security Council, expanding the total volume of welfare resources, resolving imbalances, and efforts to activate honorary social welfare officers.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “The excellent evaluation of Seongdong-gu’s welfare policy in this regional community welfare project evaluation stems from efforts to carefully embrace the daily lives of residents,” adding, “We will build an even more detailed welfare safety net to create an inclusive city Seongdong where all residents are happy without any care blind spots.”
